I always loved writing. I remember when I was a teenager, I was writing songs just to get lucky with girls; it worked perfectly and they melted with my words. Of course, my song writing has evolved beyond the teenage dream of getting laid. Now, my creations are more horror than anything else. I think my death metal band may have a big influence with this. But I’m the type of person who is never satisfied with what I’m doing, and I get bored easily. Songwriting is just not enough.

Boot Backtrack 5 KDE with VirtualBox

I was trying to run the new Backtrack but I couldn’t get KDE to launch. It gave me an error that it couldn’t find my vboxvideo module but it was there.

Finally someone on the Backtrack forum found the solution and here it is.

Remove auto eth0 in Kubuntu.

I find my self baffled by this bug. When I connect my ethernet cable, Kubuntu creates an invisible automatic network connection. I can’t even assign a static IP nor change any settings for this mysterious connection. The worst part is that I cannot add another one which will overrule the invisible one. It will always be there, lurking in the back and waiting for me to connect a cable to my ethernet port. Each time I find myself trapped in a horror film and I get killed by an invisible back door.

I think this issue was first reported on Kubuntu 8.04 and I have no idea why this is not resolved yet. Someone would think that 6 versions later, this annoying little bug would have disappeared form the face of the computerized world. But I’m afraid not, and it’s still here laughing at me every time I upgrade my Kubuntu distribution.

I use my laptop for almost everything. Work, pleasure, gaming, hacking and anything else in between. As work is the most important thing, it cannot be seen, without a doubt, holding hands with pleasure, gaming and hacking. I have to make sure that all is secure and everything doesn’t cross over anything. VirtualBox becomes a handy tool when it comes to this. I make sure that my VirtualBox receives the IP and not my Linux wired connection. I use my wired connection as bridge only between my work network and my VirtualBox image. This means I do no have an IP address on my eth0.

As you can see, not having a IP address is extremely important and this little issue gives me a great problem. But yes, I found a simple solution that will work on any distribution of Kubuntu. You will have to use a gnome aspect of the network management for about 5 minutes — disgusting gnome — and this will be forgotten until another distribution upgrade.

Run Chrome as Root in kubuntu

Technically, you can’t really run chrome as root but there is a workaround.

Since the latest updates I’ve not been able to run Google Chrome and Chromium as root anymore. For some reason, Google decided to limit their users just like Windows does.

After 20 years of running everything on machines and networks as root/administrator/God ; your are not going to tell me that I can’t run your shitty browser the way I see fit. I chose to use Linux for the simple reasons that I have the right to choose and have freedom to do whatever I want to.

My daily internet dose is mostly spent on Firefox and Opera, and I want to allow my girlfriend to use my computer without logging me out of somewhat important Facebook chats so I installed Chrome. This restriction is really annoying.

There is a simple solution for this — at least in KDE—. You can run any applications as any user you may want and you don’t have to login with the user It’s pretty simple to do and works perfectly.
